I AM – Jul-I Am – Positive Affirmation and Empowerment Series
How I came across the inspiration to run Jul-I AM
I attended a Women’s Circle – and we did a meditation focusing on I Am empowerment statements. This was a really powerful meditation with a very strong male voice and a tribal beat music behind it.
It definitely isn’t something that I would normally choose for meditation! I’d normally choose something like this for a more energising experience. It brought forward some amazing images in my mind, and I loved it. I came out of the meditation feeling energised, inspired and relaxed all at once. It was a perfect setup for the Women’s Circle that night.
Afterwards, I couldn’t stop thinking about the meditation and its effects on me. Naturally that got me to thinking about what I could do with that. I thought that if it had such a profound effect on me, then why not on my clients and fans?
And here we are! Ready to go for Jul-I Am!
Why I Am? How about I Feel or I Will?
Have you ever made a commitment to yourself to do something in the future? Did you always honour that commitment? Why not? It’s easy to promise yourself that you will.
- You will start that diet tomorrow (that’s a topic in itself!).
- I promise to look after myself better.
- Tomorrow I will start that exercise program.
- I will be better organised.
- I’m going to make that appointment.
Sometimes you do follow through with these promises. Sometimes you don’t! Why not? The answer is simple – it’s a future promise. There’s always another tomorrow. But – tomorrow never comes. The next day is never assured. Life gets in the way. Then what do you do next because you didn’t tick off the list. You didn’t get to the thing you promised to change.
The next thing you probably do – beat yourself up. Feelings of guilt and failure often arise. These feelings often contribute to a pattern of making promises, not being willing or able to fulfil them, feeling bad about yourself, self-sabotage, making more promises and so on. This type of pattern is not really ideal to lead to self-empowerment! It’s easy to commit to something in the future, not so easy to fulfil those commitments.
I Feel is a step closer to I Am.
You are acknowledging the feelings that you have, which in itself is fantastic. I work a lot with people that are unable to feel their feelings, or acknowledge that they have these feelings. It’s also important to understand these feelings and listen to what your body is trying to tell you, which is something I help people with as well.
I Feel is much more preferable than I Think! I Think focuses more on the logical brain and the ego rather than the heart and feelings. So I Feel is close to I Am – but what is the problem with this. Working with I Feel allows you to feel your emotions, but does not prompt you to act.
If you don’t act, then you are not necessarily going to make changes that support how you would like to feel. This also enables you to move into I Will instead of I Am. I Feel….bad, so therefore I will….do something different….at some point in the future. You can see how this can enable you to avoid making necessary changes.
I AM
I Am is about the present moment. Right here, right now. It doesn’t focus on the future as you can with I Will, and it doesn’t focus on the past events leading to I Feel, but focuses on what is real, where you are today.
Naturally you can focus on the negative I Am if you really want to, like I am unfit, I am tired, I am angry. There’s not really much benefit in that though. Not to mention that it will lead straight to I feel…bad, and I will change something at some point in the future. That’s not really very empowering, and certainly not the outcome I envisage for you.
Let’s take a look at what I AM is for you.
Jul-I AM
See what I did there? Huh? Huh? July and I. Sorry, dad joke! So, the Jul-I Am program is a daily Facebook and Instagram post of a positive I AM statement for you to make the focus of your day. It’s free, it’s easy to access, and it’s a great opportunity for you to try something different and create a new habit over the month. It’s like Dry July for negative thinking!
All you have to do is visit my page each day (HOT TIP: choose See First for all my posts to appear in your newsfeed), embrace the I AM statement, and make it your focus for the day. Comment on my post to tell me how YOU ARE….whatever the focus for the day is. A few of the statements are:
- I AM Worthy
- I AM accepting that I have to change to move forward
- I AM proud of being unique.
Tell me how or why you are those things! Be kind to yourself and look how your perspective on things changes. Energy flows where focus goes. If you always focus on the negative, then the negative is what you will see.
Now, I’m certainly not saying that you need to be happy and positive all the time! Everyone has ups and downs and not so pleasant things in life. But even on the worst day, you can find something to be grateful for, or positive about.
A great example of this is the day my mum died – the worst day of my life. I remember that night was the biggest, most yellow and bright moon that I had seen in a long time. Now, 7 years later, I can still see that moon clearly, despite my distress on that day, and that gives me a positive memory of a really terrible day.
Now, when I see the moon, I think of my mum, and remember the good things, and the not so good things. And I am grateful that I have these memories, and how they shaped me to become the person that I am today. A positive association with a not so positive event. It is possible! Energy flows where focus goes.
The Jul-I AM Challenge.
I challenge you to take the time each day to focus on the here and now – not the past, not the future – but right here, right now. Focus on a positive affirmation, own it, reflect on why YOU ARE….that’s day’s focus. When you complete the month, you will see a big shift in the way that you think, that you feel about yourself, and the aspects of things that you choose to focus your attention on.
Take a minute to reflect on where you are emotionally right now. Where would you like to be in a month’s time? Set this as your intention for the month, follow this easy program, and reflect at the end of July on how things have changed and evolved for you.
Pretty easy, isn’t it?
Are you in?
Make sure you’re following me on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, and let me know what you’d like to see, and for me to focus on.
Are You Ready?
I AM!
Where Can I Find This Inspirational Meditation?
There’s an app on both Apple and Android called Insight Timer. It’s free – my favourite price! And it’s fantastic! It currently has 5,550 free meditations on it at the time of writing (June 2017).
Go to the search tool within the headphones tab (you’ll see what I mean when you download). Search for “I Am Affirmations” and there will be two results, both authored by PowerThoughts Meditation Club. Sadly, there are only two of these meditations by this author, but they are both very inspirational.
I’ve used both several times now, and I love them as much now as I did the first time I heard them. I’m hoping they upload more very soon!
